Review : ‘Shubh Ratri’ is a suspense thriller with doses of romance and drama!
As the cinema houses are reopened in Maharashtra, there’s a beeline for movie releases in theatres. As the big productions houses are releasing their big films, here a producer-director-actor #RahulPrajapati who has daringly released his film #ShubhRatri in theatres. Though the movie doesn’t boast of any big names it’s entertaining enough to bring the audiences to the cinema halls through mouth publicity. Shubh Ratri has all the entertaining ingredients any masala film should have like, romance, songs, comedy, action, suspense, thrill etc, but a director with more experience could have handled it in an effective manner. The debutant director Rahul Prajapati has done a decent job. The film offers a good amount of pure shayari which helps the central character’s impact on screen.
Rajlaxmi (Karnika Mandal) is a simple girl leading normal life with het mother and sister Geeta (Apurva Kavde) who faces some torrid things in life and her life turns turbulent. One day she meets with an accident and unknown Aditya (Mehul Bhojak) happens to take her to the hospital. Her servant Lallan (Rajkumar Kanojia) visit the hospital from whom Aditya comes to know that Rajlaxmi is a daughter of a filthy rich father. Later Aditya befriends Rajlaxmi and it turns into love and they decide to get married. Her granny flies down from abroad to the bless the couple who stays in Aditya’s bungalow. On their ‘suhag raat’ Rajlaxmi requests Aditya to wait till midnight 12. In the meantime a robber Rahul (Rahul Kumar) enters the bungalow. The married couple whiles away time chatting with each other. When the clock strikes 12 Rajlaxmi stabs her newly wed husband. Why she indulges in this act and what transpires later and in the flashback takes audience on a roller coaster ride.
The story has a novelty of sorts because the suspense gets entangled in many areas as the film progresses. The twists and turns in the screenplay are well etched out but more authenticity could have helped to the end product. The first half drags but the pace catches up in the second half. The debutant director has tried to infuse many ingredients in the film which do not help the end result. The comic scenes fail to extract laughter and the writing is below par. The suspense and the thrill in the film do make the viewers guessing and that’s a plus. The dialogues show spark in between especially the shayari part. Karnika Mandal has tried to play the role of Rajlaxmi convincingly and shows promise. Rahul Kumar shows spark and has given a credible performance including dancing well on an Arabic dream song. Shahid Mallya, Apurva Kavde, Rajkumar Kanojia and others lend good support in acting department. Though there are quite a few drawbacks in ‘Shubh Ratri’ but the music is good and the opening disco song is foot tapping.
Shubh Ratri is a good attempt by director Rahul Prajapati who needs to hone his skills still further but the multiple emotions part works for the film.
