Review : #SitapurTheCityofGangsters sincerely tries to entertain with action, drama and romance!

In the nineties #Mumbai city witnessed gang wars and based on those incidents Mumbai Saga was made which released this year in theatres before the second wave of corona forced theatres to close down once again. Movies like #ShootoutatLokhandwala, #ShootoutatWadala were based on Mumbai gang wars while movies titled Bullet Raja, Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2 were based on gangster stories in northern India. Even web series Mirzapur 1 & 2 too garnered huge support from the viewers. The gangster movies have always received support from the audiences. Sitapur – The City of Gangsters is a new gangster movie based on the nexus between North Indian politics and gangsters. The movie, though not offering anything novel, has tried to entertain viewers with a mixture of action, romance and drama.

Dev Singh Rana (Ravi Sudha Choudhary) is a president of college union is a fearless youth who doesn’t bat an eye lead to indulge in a fight for justice. The series of fights lands him in fighting politically controlled bunch of people thus leading to a fierce life-long enmity. Since the bunch belongs to the political outfit, a series of murders starts. The enmity grows as Dev’s girlfriend Preeti (Aparna Mallick) gets murdered and he decides to take revenge. And this is where the story of Dev Singh Rana takes a turn. The series of murders and revenge on murders never stop. Karan, (Gautam Kumar) who works for politician and a minister Abhay Narayan Tiwari (Anil Rastogi), is a ruthless gangster who murders people at his whims and fancy. As he is involved in the murders, Devi is desperately after his blood. The SP Saahiba tries to keep her city calm but the political interference doesn’t allow her to. Running from the clutches of law Dev lands at Vaishali’s (Anchal Pandey) house who offers him a shelter. She actually is a mole planted by SP but she falls in love with him. After a few love songs (Dev with both the heroines) and series of murders the film throws a message that taking law into your hands is not a solution.

The story and screenplay is attributed to Mobeen Warsi and Ravi Sudha Choudhary which is good in parts but too many incidents and characters makes it drift away. Mobeen Warsi‘s direction is good but he should have curtailed the length (with the help of film’s editor, of course) which is little above two and half hours. Also avoiding repetitiveness could have helped the film. The technical aspects of the film are good. Song locations and cinematography are very good as well as the background score (Narendra Singh).

Music (Raushan Pandey) is okay but song sung by the producer, creative director, screenplay writer, lyricist and the lead actor Ravi Sudha Choudhary is really good. He has acted in a stylised manner and has given a decent performance. Anil Rastogi and Naval Shukla (Police Commissioner) play their parts with elan and are noticeable. Gautam Kumar is good in his negative role. Both the girls, Aparna Mallick and Anchal Pandey, do not have much to do but they display their grace in the love songs.

Sitapur – The City of Gangsters is gangster film, which sincerely tries to entertain with action, drama and romance, is available on MX Player free of cost.
