Review : ‘Sooryavanshi’ passes viewers’ test with ‘flying’ colours!
#RohitShetty’s cop universe film #Sooryavanshi was released in theatres on big screens after almost one and half years and it has passed the viewers’ test with ‘#flying’ colours. The film apart from showing police department’s positive side and try to enter their private lives. The director Rohit Shetty in all his cop universe movies has underlined the fact that cops too are human. In Sooryavanshi too apart from electrifying action, emotional side of Veer Sooryavanshi, DCP in ATS, is displayed with sensitivity. The film being a Rohit Shetty film, the ‘flying’ cars too are superbly incorporated.
The film opens with Veer Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar) losing both his parents in 1993 Mumbai blasts. DCP Veer Sooryavanshi, the Chief of India’s Anti-Terrorism Squad, is appointed to crack the new case of impending terror attack where Mumbai is in danger once again. In a report it was noticed that in 1993, 1000kg of RDX was brought in by the terrorists in the country and out of the only 400kg were utilised by them. Remaining 600kg of RDX is to be found out by the police. The story in the film unfolds as the biggest attack is yet to happen in the city, as some sleeper cells, developed by the enemy neighbour country, from ‘Lashkar’ have been activated and it is found that 600 kilos of RDX left over from ’93 serial attacks is being used for the purpose. Sooryavanshi is so committed towards his duty that even his family, wife Riya (Katrina Kaif) and son Aryan come second to his mighty task at hand. After smart game plans of both the terrorists and the police the film takes viewers on an entertainment ride.
The story (Rohit Shetty) idea has been used in quite a few films earlier. The screenplay required little bit of trimming and the film’s length too should have been curtailed a bit because the climax scenes seem to drag a little. The first half is slow as compared to the second half which is mighty entertaining indulging in action, romance and comedy. Especially the film lightens up with the entry of Simbaa (Ranveer singh) and he has managed to extract punches from each of his lines. Ajay Devgn’s entry too is grand and the director, as has become his trademark, subtly announces another chapter of Singham. Akshay Kumar excels in all departments and his characterisation of forgetting names gathers a lot of laughters. There are umpteen high drama chases, with cars, bikes and helicopters as Akshay Kumar displays his unquestionable action skills and it’s an Akshay show all the way.
Rohit Shetty is in form as his action-comedy genre is full of entertainment. The chase scenes between Akshay Kumar and Sikander Kher is fabulous though it reminds us of The Matrix Reloaded. Sooryavanshi has all the ingredients, heavy-duty action as well as star power, attitude, style, showmanship which is expected of a Rohit Shetty’s cop universe film. The trio of Akshay-Ajay-Ranveer display their star power with much elan and their scenes will collect claps and whistles for sure. The dialogues are excellent and keep viewers entertained with regular punch-lines. The music is okay and ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani…’ gives Katrina Kaif to make her presence felt. Otherwise too, apart from looking ravishing, she has delivered a decent performance. Jackie Shroff as the leader of terrorist gang Omar Afeez and his cronies Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Kumud Mishra and Nikitin Dheer’s portrayals add to the plot’s progression. Jaaved Jaaferi as ATS chief too is very good.
Sooryavanshi is a typical Rohit Shetty movie with loaded action dhamaka with comedy and romance thrown in, is hugely entertaining.
