Review : Srikanth – Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhen Kholne : An “Eye-Opener”!

In recent times quite a few biopics hit the theatres wherein different personalities were presented on screen. A new biopic ‘#SrikanthAaRahaHaiSabkiAankhenKholne’ is based on a visually impaired person, #SrikanthBolla, who became a millionaire with true grit and determination. The director #TusharHiranandani (Scam 2003 The Telgi Story) tells the story with simplicity and passion. The protagonist never wanted or expected sympathy and his tale is an ‘eye opener’ for everyone. Despite being visually impaired his ‘vision’ was always to succeed in whatever he did. The lead character’s conceitedness too is bravely handled.

Born in Machchalipattanam in Andhra Pradesh in a poor farmer’s house Srikanth is visually impaired since birth. In actuality his father names him, without realising that his son is blind, Srikanth (Rajkumar Rao) after India’s great cricketer Krishnamachari Shrikanth. He wants to kill him but can’t. Then the struggle of survival starts for younger Srikanth. He keeps hearing ‘Andhe log sirf bheek mangte hai’ from his fellow students and his determination of successfully surviving gets stronger by the day. He tops the boards but is denied admission in science stream. He and his guardian, mentor and teacher Devika (Jyothika) knocks on the doors of court and gets a nod and he gets admission. Later he is denied admission in IIT but gets selected by prestigious MIT, USA. He meets Swathi (alaya F) there and she convinces him to return to India to inspire many more visually impaired people. He starts a company, Bollant Industries and employs only ‘special people’. His dream of becoming a first visually impaired President of India is still unfulfilled.

The writing is good and the dialogues which are ‘energy’ for the character are impactful in the film. The screenplay is neatly bound and the director presents the proceeding in an honest and earnest way. There are no frills as the subject at hand is quite strong. The production values are good and all the technical departments help the film. Music is good too and the cinematography is excellent. Background score should have been less louder. Rajkumar Rao aces the character and his ‘working’ of the character is simply fantastic. He looks blind and the mannerisms are impeccable. Also the two shaded character is justifiably played by him. Jyothika scores with her charming presence and without empowering the lead character she makes her presence felt in every scene she is in. Sharad Kelkar as Srikanth’s business partner Ravi Mantha plays the role convincingly and sedately. Alaya F looks beautiful and makes her presence felt in a minuscule screen time. Her full potentiality is not completely utilised. Also Swathi-Srikanth relationship should have been shown in detail.

Srikanth – Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhen Kholne’ is a well made biopic and definitely a one time watch.
