Review : Starfish tries to find its way in a sea but drowns in the end!
A lot of adaptations are being made into movies and the recent one is #Starfish which is adapted from #BinaNayak’s popular novel #StarfishPickle. It’s often found that most of the time script on paper looks promising but when seen on screen looks the other way. The director should be proficient in cinematic language otherwise even a good script turns out to be a poor film. Starfish falls into this category as the director isn’t able to effortlessly bring out the ethos and pain of the central character on screen. Resultantly Starfish, despite having good concept of exploring deep sea and the deep conflicts in the mind, fails to impress.
In picturesque Malta, an island country located in the central Mediterranean Sea, Tara (Khushali Kumar) is a professional diver and helps Indian Navy in an accident occurred in deep sea. She meets Aman (Tushar Khanna) and finds solace in his company. Actually Tara is fighting incidents from her childhood because she had witnessed, multiple times, her parents fighting. Moreover her mother had died by suicide. Later she comes across a handsome singer Neil (Ehan Bhat) and both start dating. When everything is going smooth between them her family arranges her marriage to Aman. What transpires next or in between forms the crux of the story.
The director takes viewers to a beautiful journey through the depths of the underwater world. Starfish tries to tell tale of grief and healing of the central character. But he seems lost and the haphazard editing makes the proceedings dull. The director tries to explore depth of human emotions but it’s not smoothly done. Music is passable but the cinematography is excellent and captures the raw beauty of Malta. Jim Edgar captures the underwater scenes beautifully and offers stunning visuals. The entire movie revolves around Khushali Kumar and she has offered a sincere performance. But she has miles to go in the acting field. But her good looks and a decent performance make the film watchable. Tushar Khanna and Ehan Bhat impress with their presence and acting. Milind Soman plays his mysterious character ably.
Starfish tries to find its way in a sea but drowns in the end.
