Review : Superlative performance by Kartik Aaryan in and as Freddy!
#KartikAaryan is on a roll. After giving Blockbuster comedy flick #BhoolBhulaiyaa2, he takes you into the dark world of Freddy. #DirectorShashankaGhosh takes viewers to the #Parsiworld and creates thrill authentically. Usually anything Parsi is used for creating humour and collecting laughs. But he creates believable world with a gripping screenplay. Importantly Kartik never goes overboard and maintains the mood of the character throughout.
Freddy Ginwala (Kartik Aaryan) is a successful dentist having a flourishing practice. But he is extremely introvert and gets panicky when meeting girls. He is a loner and finds solace in the company of his friend Hardy, the tortoise. He usually gets rejected by girls for his ogling ways but he keeps meeting girls for an arranged marriage. Once he notices a beautiful girl at a party and falls for her immediately. She happens to be Kainaaz Irani (Alaya F) married to Rustam Irani. Despite knowing that he stalks her and on the pretext of her dental treatment tries to meet her often. She too relents and meets him where he finds out that her husband is a wife-beater. Pained to digest what his love is going through, he decides to finish off Rustam and win his lady’s heart. He does that after a meticulous planning but after Rustom’s death he is in for an indigestible surprise. Whatever transpires next is the main plot of the story which happens ‘sirf ek sorry ke liye’.
The story of Freddy is intriguing and is quite relatable. The Parsi backdrop helps this thriller and a lot of authenticity could be seen in that world. Parveez Shaikh’s screenplay is perfectly woven, though there are a few loopholes. But it does keep viewers interested in the proceedings. The ‘gongs’ required in the script are perfectly timed. Shashanka Ghosh creates the dark thriller with simple but effective story telling. The film never deviates from it’s core point. The dialogues too are very good. Kartik Aaryan delivers a superlative performance, maybe his best so far. He’s in a terrific form. He looks the character and his conviction engages viewers attention throughout. He has put on weight for the character and his gait and mannerisms are top-notch. Alaya F once again proves that she’s a performer. Earlier in her debut film Jawaani Jaaneman she was good and in Freddy she goes a few steps higher and delivers a fabulous and mature performance convincingly. Others lend good support which makes Freddy additionally watchable.
