Review : Tamannaah ably shoulders Babli Bouncer!
In recent times female oriented subjects are being handled by the film makers, #ShabashMithu, #Jalsa, #AThursday, #GangubaiKathiawadi to name a few. #MadhurBhadarkar adds #BabliBouncer to that list. Madhur Bhadarkar, known for his super work in Chandani bar, Page 3 etc has spun a story around female bouncer. He tells the story in a simple pattern but with conviction. Credit should be given to him for roping in beautiful #Tamannaah to portray a wrestler cum female bouncer. Tamannaah doesn’t let her good looks come in-between her portrayal and play a female wrestler with huge physical power. Babli Bouncer is a decent attempt to break the stereotype but falters to hold your attention all the way, especially second half of second half.
Babli Tanwar (Tamannaah Bhatia) hails from a village in Haryana which is famous for dishing out bouncers. She enjoys weight lifting and bashing road side romeos. Her mother (Yamini Das) pesters her to get married but she is not ready yet. Her doting father (Saurabh Shukla) supports her decisions and let her have her way, most of the time. Local wrestler Kuku (Sahil Vaid), who works as a bouncer in a hotel in Delhi, fancies her and wants to marry her. One thing leads to another and Babli ends up as a female bouncer in the same hotel, of course with the help of Kuku, where she needs to handle trouble-making female clients. In between Tamannaah meets Viraj (Abhishek Bajaj), her teacher’s son and falls for him head over heels, who too stays in Delhi. After confessing love and rejection from Viraj Babli’s life takes a drastic change. What happens next is the crux of the narrative.
Madhur Bhandarkar has avoided gimmicks while story telling, which he has kept simple. The movie doesn’t bore you but the writing takes a beating in the climax. Though the concept of the movie is novel the script falters at many places. Madhur Bhandarkar’s earlier work was much better but he has extracted superlative performance from his lead actress, Tamannaah. Bhandarkar covers many areas while narrating including women who frequent nightclubs can be as vicious and troublesome as men. Tamannaah ably shoulders the films and has given a stupendous performance. Her gait, Haryanvi dialect and demeanour are perfect and she looks beautiful too. Saurabh Shukla and Yamini Das are a treat to watch while Sahil Vaid and Abhishek Bajaj are decent.
Babli Bouncer is a one time watch, especially for Tamannaah Bhatia’s performance.
