Saqib Saleem encourages young female cricket fans in the city
Saqib Salim made a breath-taking debut on the webspace with Rangbaaz for ZEE5. He was part of films like Bombay Talkies, Dishoom, Race 3. Now he’s excited about his role, where he portrays Mohinder Amarnath, in Kabir Khan directorial ‘83. Saqib Saleem is gearing up to bring his next film, ’83 to the audience. The actor who’s been shooting round the clock for his next and dubbing for ’83 took out some time from his busy schedule for young female cricket fans. When asked about the idea behind the session, Saqib says, “Cricket is not a gender-biased sport and women in our country are hugely talented so I would just want to motivate them and tell them to dream big. Who knows where we find our next Mithali Raj.”
Even though the actor agrees that women’s cricket hasn’t been promoted enough, he surely feels that the times are changing slowly. He further adds “It’s sad but maybe because back in the day they were only restricted to do household chores. Today, so many women are chasing their dreams and are truly unstoppable. The modern-day woman doesn’t just associate herself with running a household but making her dreams come true as well. So I hope this changes now as its time we empower our women.”
The actor also feels it’s important to include sports in school curriculum & promoting female athletes, here’s what he has to say “I think it’s very important for people to recognize empowering programs for women to help them push the envelope and let them do what they really want to. Even on the educational front, I feel it should be made a part of the basic co-curricular programs in schools and colleges.”
