Somy Ali says,”I believe it is necessary to celebrate women on a regular basis”
Former Bollywood actress Somy Ali, who now leads a non-profit organisation called No More Tears in the US speaks about Women’s Day. She feels everyday is a women’s day. She says,”I believe it is necessary to celebrate women on a regular basis given the ill treatment we have endured for centuries. There is much compensation required if I am being honest. From an actor’s perspective, there are many who have done so much to give women a voice and rights through their performances and activism. Talents such as Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das, Deepika Padukone, Taapsee Pannu, and many others should be celebrated for not only accepting bold roles, but by raising their voices on several issues relevant to woman rights.”
Speaking about the progress she adds, ”There has been progress, but we have a long way to go. The patriarchal society yet prevails universally, however, many women are displaying immense courage by taking a stand against it and some are at the risk of losing their lives.” Somy is currently busy with humanitarian work and has no plans of coming back to the industry. She is now working as a human trafficking expert and domestic violence expert for her organisation.
