Eeshwar (Anil Kapoor) is a simple minded, jovial young man loved by everyone in his hometown for his generosity and singing. With a noble heart and intent, Eeshwar takes it in his stride and helps a widowed Lalita (Vijayshanti) in raising her newborn son. The two soon fall in love and get married. However, their happily ever after hits a roadblock when they start to encounter objections and criticism from the society.

Official remake of the Telugu film Swati Mutyam, the film features a magnificent soundtrack by the iconic duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. 30 years apart, Eeshwar still deserves a watch for its socially relevant storyline, simplistic approach and Anil Kapoor’s subtle yet groundbreaking portrayal of the title role which arguably remains one of his best.
