Star Pravah’s Babasaheb Ambedkar serial to take an emotional turn

Ramabai Ambedkar played an important part in Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s life and his activism, be it Babasaheb’s higher education, Satyagraha or agitation, Ramabai stood firmly behind Babasaheb and took care of her family.  Ramabai complemented his life with great devotion and love. Ramabai, who remained like a shadow with Babasaheb, had health issues which consumed her life and she passed away. This is a very shocking for Babasaheb as he faced vaccum in life.  Babasaheb had already lost many of his close relatives. Therefore after the demise of Ramabai, he’ll face another tragic incident. This is an emotional turn in Babasaheb’s life which can be witnessed in Star Pravah’s marathi serial Dr  Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Actress Shivani Rangole played the role of Ramabai.  Not only did Shivani play this role, but she also lived Ramabai’s life for the sake of the serial. With Ramabai’s demise, she will also be leaving the serial. For Shivani, this exit is definitely emotional as well as thrilling. Shivani was emotional while talking about this emotional turn in the Babasaheb Ambedkar serial. ‘The scene was shot in a very emotional atmosphere.  Everyone on the set was in tears. This role of Ramabai has given me a lot. This role will remain in my memory for the rest of my life. There are very few opportunities in life when a character changes you from within. When I got a call from Dashmi Creations for the role of Ramabai, I was overwhelmed and I couldn’t  think of anything else.  Ever since I started working, I have had a strong desire to play an ambitious female personality that is historically significant. During ‘Look Test’ they had given me to enact Ramabai, who in fact is trying to conceal her anger with a smiling face. Neither dialogues were given nor the context. When I wore a Navari sari for the first time, put a red kumkum on my forehead, bent my legs and sat on the ground and started talking with a feeling of Dr Ambedkar around me, my body language changed automatically. I had to learn Ramabai’s habits and her muffled laugh with a saree pallu on my mouth. I had to learn everything from scratch.’

‘I read many books on Ramabai’s life for reprising this role. One of my favorite books is Yogiraj Bagul’s favorite Ramu. It has a very beautiful event written in it. Throughout her life, Ramabai was able to face life as easily as she could, and she endured hardships. One day, after taking care of many people in a small room, Ambedkar brings them in front of a beautiful bungalow and tells them that. “This bungalow belongs to Ramabai Ambedkar from today. How did you feel, Ramu?”, Then the first sentence that came out of Ramabai’s mouth was, “What a big house. If there are no people, it will feel futility with huge emptiness”. I think Ramabai taught a lot from these little things. She always thought of helping needy people from the age of 10-12.’

‘It was a big challenge to portray character of Ramabai but I am glad to have gotten that opportunity. This journey was made enjoyable by the love of the people I constantly receive, the realisation that they are paying attention to you. Calling me Ramai is a gratifying for me. I will always be grateful for that’ Shivani Rangole concluded.
