Sunny Kaushal talks about the changing dynamics of the entertainment industry!
Actor Sunny Kaushal who gained immense appreciation for his character as Abhimanyu in released OTT film ‘#PhirAayiHasseenDillruba’ opened up about how OTT platforms became the game-changer and spoke about the changing dynamics of the entertainment industry, during the pandemic. With multiple films stuck in production and no theatrical releases in sight, streaming platforms provided a crucial outlet for filmmakers and actors alike.
“After the pandemic happened, there was no way to get your money back as so many films were stuck in the middle of production,” Sunny explained. “That’s when OTT really came into the picture. Years ago, pre-pandemic, nobody could have imagined OTT becoming such a major player in the industry. Today, it’s the main space for content consumption. The platforms have revolutionized the way stories are told, and the variety is immense. Whether it’s a niche art film, a big-budget action thriller, or international content, there’s something for everyone.”
Sunny also highlighted the vast range of content that OTT platforms offer, giving creative teams and actors an opportunity to experiment with new genres and formats.”What’s fascinating is the quality of content these platforms provide. From series to films, OTT platforms allow stories that may not have found space in traditional cinemas to thrive. It’s a more inclusive space for storytellers, and as an actor, it’s exciting because you can really push the envelope.”
Kaushal’s reflections resonate with many in the industry as OTT platforms continue to reshape the entertainment landscape, offering a lifeline during difficult times and creating new possibilities for the future. He further commented on the future of content consumption, stating that OTT is here to stay, even as cinemas make a comeback.
“The success of OTT is not just because of the pandemic. It’s here to stay because audiences love the freedom and accessibility. People want to watch content at their own pace, and streaming platforms provide that flexibility,” he said.
As Kaushal continues to celebrate the rise of digital platforms, his perspective sheds light on how OTT has opened doors for more creative freedom and a broader spectrum of storytelling in the Indian entertainment industry.
