Television Celebs voice for right to education for all!
Celebrated on September 8 worldwide, #InternationalLiteracyDay creates awareness around the right to education and the importance of literacy. According to wikipedia, the day came into existence after #UNESCO declared the same on October 26, 1966, at their 14th General Conference. On the occasion, celebrities talk about the significance of education, and why, much like food and shelter, it is our basic right that helps us learn, grow and survive. Read on:
Hasan Zaidi – Education to me is of paramount importance. I come from a family where my father was an English professor, a prolific Urdu poet and my mother was a Hindi teacher. All their lives they’ve been teaching. I’ve seen people’s lives change just from the fact that they can read their name, recognise an alphabet, sign, and learn about a certain subject as then probably go and work in that field. I also come from a village. We go back there every year and with our funds take care of that village, the education of the children residing there. I’ve been a witness to how their lives have changed for the better with education. Literacy and education has always been a medium of progress and we cannot expect a family or a nation to move ahead without equipping them with the right tools or guidance. Just to be able to recognize numbers, read be it for money-related issues or medical purposes or helping our loved ones, education can facilitate all these things. From Swami Vivekananda’s to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad to Sir Sayed Ahmed Khan, our great scholars always spoke about the importance of education. They made our country proud throughout the world with their knowledge. Today some of the biggest of companies are run by Indians, this is how education has shown us that we can reach the top most levels. Right from the grassroots level till the top, education coupled with experience helps you progress. If you can’t adopt a village or a community, adopt a child but try to help those who are unable to get the proper education. That is your duty.
Harjinder Singh – Education helps you reach your destination by helping you create the roadmap. Everyone has some or the other destination to reach. Education is all about learning and sharing knowledge. And knowledge helps you understand your life better, understand what is right and what is wrong. Along with books, our life experiences also teach us a lot. But, yes formal education is a must. I strongly believe that where there are a large number of educated people, there’s less chaos. People will mind their own business. For basic understanding of life, education is very important. If a person is educated on what they will learn by working for 10 years, I think they will learn to do the same within 5 years.
Sagar Parekh – I think proper and good education is very important for all of us. Government should facilitate quality learning among people of every age group, caste, creed and religion. I think it is also a process of achieving knowledge, value, skills, beliefs or moral habits that are much required. People need to have a higher level of awareness about the importance of knowledge more than before. Education is necessary for each and everyone. I think education is the ultimate way to win over all personal and social problems. It also plays a very important role in our lives. It helps us live a better and a peaceful life. Education should be of the top most priority for children. They should learn how to make a good life, become a survivor, cope up with day to day challenges, be kind, earn a livelihood, and be independent while growing up.
Sneh Binny – Education means everything to me. I feel it gives you an understanding of the world and things that are happening around you. Literacy is the ability to read, write and speak properly, and these are the basic necessities to be independent. It is even more important than education. Literate people can be educated about things. It’s difficult to educate illiterate people.
Parull Chaudhry – Education is life. Without education we are like a blank canvas that is of no value. Education adds to our personality, makes us aware, wise and helps you to get an understanding of everything that’s happening closer home and worldwide. Education is our foundation to becoming intelligent beings, and helps us to lead a happy, healthy and fulfilled life.
Rohit Purohit – Education is very important in life. An educated person surely understands things better. Education gives us knowledge and better understanding of the world around us. It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. Education should be encouraged and accessible to all, irrespective of gender or economic status. After all knowledge opens your mind and makes us sharper.
