To promote farmer welfare and sustainable agriculture practices, UPL Ltd org anises, ‘Sarpanch Mela’!

#UPLLtd., a global provider of sustainable agriculture products and solutions, held a #SarpanchMela which was attended by over 100 Sarpanchs from the Maharashtra region. The focus of the interaction was to discuss subjects including holistic crop protection solutions, increasing the yield and enhance overall prosperity of farmers.

The Mela was hosted by Mr. Ashish Dobhal, Regional Director-India, UPL Ltd. During the session, the speakers highlighted how UPL’s products and services benefitted the two villages adopted by the company in Maharashtra (Wadale, Tal. Parner / Alephata (Tal. Junnar). The seminar touched upon important points such as the concept of a UPL Village, and the ways that UPL Ltd. helped the farmers adopt sustainable agriculture products and practices in the region that led to an increase in the yield and income for the farmers. It also covered the other benefits that provided to farmers in the region like the insurance cover for their crop. The session was extremely well received by the participating sarpanchs, with a number of them expressing their interest in bringing the program to their village. In addition to this, the representatives of UPL Ltd. also had a short session on the ways to take care of yourself during Covid-19.

Sharing his thoughts on the same, Mr. Ashish Dobhal, regional head of India said, “We, at UPL Ltd., are focused on benefitting the farmers to the best of our abilities. Our programs take a holistic approach aimed at improving farm yield and thereby increasing income for the farmers. The participating sarpanchs were pleased by the concept of UPL Villages, and once they learnt just how many benefits they led to, they also wanted to bring the concept to their own villages. I am pleased with the success of the program and I hope to reach out to as many farmers as possible through different modes and make them resilient.”

Sachin Gholap, Sapanch, Village Rohokadi, Tal-Junnar, Dist-Pune, shared their view on the Mela, “The session was very informative and gave us a good understanding of the potential of our farmland. We also got an idea of the products and services UPL Ltd. has to offer, and how they will help not just improve yield but also increase our income. I will definitely be considering bringing the program to my village, and based on what I saw, I would recommend it to other villages as well.”

Mr. Shivaji Bhapkar, Sarpanch, Vadule Village, Parner, Ahmednagar, said, “We used to face severe loss to our onion crop sown during Kharif season. But when we applied Zeba in our onion crop during the last kharif season we found out that there was good aggregation in the soil that helped in leaching out the excess rainwater faster and at the same time stored the nutrients in the root zone providing the nourishment to the crop. Due to the use of Zeba, we got 20-30 percent higher yields of quality onions as well as it helped to reduce or in achieving no cases of rotting of the onions at the maturing stage.”
He further added that Zeba as an example of sustainable agriculture, not only increases the yield substantially but also reduces the wastage of natural resources and agri-inputs resulting in reduced crop losses and higher income to the farmers.
