&TV’s ‘Atal’ Completes One Year, Neha Joshi Reflects on Serial’s Success!

Neha Joshi, known for her versatile performances in Hindi and Marathi cinema and television, has captivated audiences with her acting prowess. Currently portraying #KrishnaDeviVajpayee in &TV’s Atal, a show exploring the untold aspects #ShriAtalBihariVajpayees childhood, Neha reflects on a year of success. In this exclusive conversation, she discusses her role and the challenges of portraying such an inspiring character.

It has been a year since you started portraying Krishna Devi Vajpayee in Atal. What makes her so inspiring?

Time has flown by, and it is hard to believe that we are already celebrating the show’s first anniversary. When I was first offered this role, I hesitated. Portraying Krishna Devi Vajpayee is a huge responsibility and I am immensely grateful for this opportunity. Krishna Devi is a loving mother and a devoted wife. She embodies grace and resilience. She dreamt of an independent India while supporting her husband and shaping young Atal’s values. Her nurturing nature and strength deeply inspire me. It is not just her story but her spirit that makes her so extraordinary. Playing this character has enriched me both as an actor and as a person.

What has it been like playing a mother at a young age? This marks your third collaboration with Aayudh Bhanushali (young Atal).

Playing a mother at a young age has been a journey of discovery. It has allowed me to tap into a nurturing, protective side of myself that I had not explored before. Working with Aayudh for the third time has been an absolute joy. He is an exceptional talent, and our bond off-screen translates beautifully into an authentic, heartfelt connection on-screen. Over time, we have developed a natural rhythm that brings so much depth to our scenes. Portraying this mother-son dynamic has been truly special, and I cherish every moment of it.
You recently celebrated one year of Atal in Gwalior with Aayudh Bhanushali. How was that experience?
Celebrating this milestone in Gwalior, the birthplace of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was an unforgettable experience. Visiting the library and computer training institute named after his father, was deeply moving. Another highlight was tasting his favourite boondi ladoos at Bahadura Sweets! The entire trip was a heartfelt tribute to Atal Ji’s legacy and a reminder of the powerful story we are telling through this show.

How do you connect personally with Krishna Devi? Has portraying her changed your perspective?

Krishna Devi’s quiet defiance and unshakable resilience have deeply resonated with me. She has taught me that true strength does not always need a loud voice—it can be found in silent determination and unwavering support. Playing her has not only changed how I view the subtle forms of strength in the people around me but has also inspired me to embody those qualities in my own life.

What is your dream role and is there a specific character you aspire to portray?

I dream of bringing to life a women-centric character who embodies strength, compassion, and resilience—someone who leaves a profound impact on the audience. A role that highlights the power of women in leadership and inspires others would be ideal. Through such a portrayal, I hope to motivate women to chase their dreams with courage and persevere through challenges with determination.
