Will padmavati re-establish shahid kapoor as ultimate gen-x romantic hero?
With fine performances in films like Kaminey, Udta Punjab, Haider ,Jab We Met, Kismet Konnection and Rangoon, Shahid Kapoor, continues to still remain most loved in roles of a romantic-hero. Jab We Met, in a career-defining role established him as one of the finest actors of his generation. The star is now back to a genre and space that he has always aced in with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati ,where he has been romantically paired opposite Deepika Padukone. Apart from Shahid and Deepika sharing screen space for the very first time , the two have finally been romantically paired opposite each other. Shahid essays the role of Raja Ratan Singh , a just ruler and a warrior who gave his all to the battlefield. Says Shahid Kapoor, “In the beginning, I used to feel claustrophobic about being called a ‘romantic hero’ and the actor in me would retaliate violently saying, ‘There’s more to me than just being a cute boy’. Now that it’s been 14 years and I’ve done all kinds of films, I enjoy getting back into a mould that people have liked me in. I think Padmavati provides an amazing platform to play a romantic character and a lover again.”
