extremely talented actors like
Amitabh ji, Jaggu Dada, Rishi
Kapoor Saab, Mithun Da. Then
there’s Ajay (Devgn), Akshay (
Kumar), Sunil Shetty etc., now
I am getting a chance to work
with younger generation stars like
Sidharth Malhotra, Tiger Shroff,
Shraddha Kapoor and it feels great.
There’s so much to learn from these
actors. If I get to work with any talent
which is different from me, I am more than happy.
You have dabbled in many genres. Which one is
comfortable?
It’s difficult to pinpoint particular genre. Let me put it this
way, every film has some parts which are comfortable and
some difficult. So each film is a challenge. Viewers may think
that since I have done a lot of comic films, comedy maybe a
comfortable zone for me, which actually is not. Being non-
repetitive is challenging. I can’t keep on doing the same stuff.
My comedy in Bluffmaster, Housefull, Malamaal Weekly,
Anna Sapna Money Money and other films has different
arcs. Otherwise audience would have thrown me out.
Do you think that a lot is still untapped in you as an actor ?
Untapped in me? I think a lot is untapped in every human
being. I am sure there’s a lot untapped in Amit ji, Dilip Saab,
Shahrukh, Salman. I know they have much more to offer. If
there’s a single actor who has been fully tapped then it’s a
waste of life.
You have worked with three generations of actors. What
are the different approaches you noticed ?
I am suddenly feeling old (Laughs). I have done three films
with Amit ji and not once he had told me to say a line in a
particular way. I have worked with actors who try to correct
you in every scene. (Riteish avoided taking names of those
actors) it’s not important who they are but I feel what they
mean is, collaborative work. Amit ji is such an actor who’ll
come and do his work without bothering anyone. Even other
actors I have worked with were never imposing. In fact while
doing comedy we nudge each other during rehearsals so
that the best comes out of a scene. There are actors who
come with great energy, some come with great dedication,
some are more involved in the process, some are chilled out.
You are working with Tiger for the first time. What’s
special about him?
I think it’s his dedication. At an outdoor shoot in Serbia we
were shooting at -7 degrees celsius. I was covered with
thermals, jacket, overcoat, still I was feeling the chill. But
here Tiger was shooting, without complaining, bare chested.
